LINX CONFIDENTIALNewsletter #22 Dear Subscriber First Name, I’ve been thinking lately about something I see all the time at Linx: the qualities that make someone impressive are not always the same qualities that make someone an extraordinary partner. I meet remarkable people every day—successful, intelligent, interesting, accomplished people who have built lives they are incredibly proud of. But after more than 23 years of matchmaking, I can tell you that a résumé only tells me so much. When I’m thinking about who might actually be right for someone, I’m paying attention to the quieter things. Can you communicate when something feels uncomfortable? Can you apologize without immediately defending yourself? Are you curious about another person’s perspective? Can you make someone feel loved and valued on an ordinary Tuesday—not just on an extraordinary vacation? Of course chemistry matters. Attraction matters. Shared values and compatible lifestyles matter enormously. But I’ve also watched seemingly perfect matches fall apart because the people involved weren’t ready for the vulnerability, flexibility, and generosity that a real partnership requires. And I’ve watched introductions that may not have looked “perfect on paper” turn into beautiful relationships because two people were willing to stay curious and discover who was actually sitting across from them. That is where the magic of matchmaking happens. At Linx, we aren’t simply comparing credentials and checking boxes. I want to understand the person behind the accomplishments. Who makes you laugh? Who makes you feel safe and understood? Who brings out something in you that no one else does? And, ultimately, with whom can you build an extraordinary life? In a different but equally meaningful way, that idea of showing up for another person is why I’m so happy to share the work of Little Wishes this month. Founded by two Bay Area nurses, Little Wishes grants seriously ill hospitalized children a wish every two weeks during treatment—giving them something joyful to choose, anticipate, and experience during incredibly difficult days. More than 40,000 wishes have now been granted. Their annual gala, It’s The Little Things, will take place at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club in Menlo Park on October 8, with cocktails, dinner, and an auction benefiting their beautiful mission. Space is limited. To attend, please email info@littlewishes.org. As summer begins to give way to fall, maybe this is a good moment to think a little less about what looks impressive on paper and a little more about what actually matters. Because in love, the question isn’t simply: “Is this person extraordinary?” It’s: “Can we be extraordinary together?” After 23+ years of doing this work, that is still the kind of match I believe is worth waiting for.
